Behind Gucci's huge street mural for NYFW

Gucci has unveiled a massive wall mural in SoHo, designed by past collaborator Jayde Fish. The mural was unveiled on Tuesday, right in time for the opening of New York Fashion Week.

""Working with Gucci has been a dream come true," Fish told FashionNetwork.com, ""The Hermit" is very close to my heart as Alessandro's Gucci has been a big source of inspiration for my own work. I'm so proud to collaborate with my favorite brand, one who supports the arts in a huge way. There aren't a lot of brands who are open to working with artists who are somewhat unknown, and I think it's amazing that they have chosen to do so. I'm incredibly thankful."

The 2,500 square-foot wall was hand-painted by the San Francisco artist. The black-and-white mural depicts a woman in a hot air balloon, peering through a telescope into the unknown. This particular illustration was first seen on a silk scarf that Fish created for Gucci.

Fish caught the eye of Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele through her Instagram page – she began creating illustrations inspired by Michele’s work for Gucci, tagging the designer in each one. Michele caught wind of the illustrations and invited Fish to work with the luxury brand on its Spring/Summer 2017 offerings.

The mural, located on Lafayette, between Prince St and Spring St, was applied to the wall with the help of Colossal Media, who specialize in large-scale ads and murals. The mural will remain on the Soho wall until the end of March.

In addition to the sprawling mural, visitors to the area will be able to use a custom Gucci geofilter on Snapchat, also created by Fish.
