New Penhaligon's fragrance sets afternoon tea among springtime blooms

British perfume house Penhaligon's has developed a truly gourmet scent for spring 2016, inspired by the quintessentially English tradition of afternoon tea and the first flowers of spring. The new fragrance, "Equinox Bloom," will be available from March.

This springtime scent was crafted by master perfumer Olivier Cresp, a nose already known for developing fragrances such as Nina Ricci's "Nina," Paco Rabanne's "Black XS" and Yves Saint Laurent's "Black Opium." In this new fragrance for Penhaligon's, Olivier Cresp was inspired by the first blooms of spring and the mouthwatering aromas of English high tea.

"During one of my recent visits to London, I enjoyed an incredible brunch in a smart, refined place, where the magnificent atmosphere of the rooms, furnished with opulent floral compositions, ensnared my senses almost at once. While admiring the floral scenery, my brunch included delightful toasts topped with honey and marmalade and these gourmand facets inspired me to bring to Equinox Bloom a trendy, modern inflexion to the generous floral bouquet," said the master perfumer.

The scent has head notes of neroli bigarade essence and violet leaf absolute, topped with Chantilly cream. Heart notes include frangipani, orange blossom absolute and jasmine sambac absolute, with base notes of ambrox, Siam benzoin absolute and brown sugar.

The bottle has a fresh, seasonal look, finished with a powder pink bow around the neck.

"Equinox Bloom" Eau de Parfum will be available from March in Penhaligon's stores and online, priced €118 for 50 ml or €149 for 100 ml.
