No more Première Vision Tokyo

Published
Nov 12, 2010

While the second edition of Première Vision Tokyo was taking place from 26 to 28 October in the Japanese capital, the French organiser announced that it would not pursue the adventure any further. This second event gathered some 2,200 buyers around the 2010/11 autumn and winter collections; a decline in relation to the 3,000 visitors present at its first edition in March. Première Vision considered the attendance rate to be insufficient and “unsuccessful in reaching the critical mass required of this type of event”.

Officials explained that “in the absence of any real prospect of development, Première Vision has decided to stop after the first two experimental shows and to withdraw from organising the event”. According to them, the Japanese market is being eaten away by deflation and causing textile designers to arbitrate their investments”. Première Vision said that the JITAC Fair, with which Première Vision Tokyo was coupled, will be the sole host of the 22 to 24 March 2011 edition, being the intermediary to agents in the Japanese market.

Première Vision announced that resources allocated to the fair will be reused in the development of a promotion plan that is more ambitious and autonomous, implying that the organisers’ focus will be on the promotion of Première Vision Paris to Japanese professionals.

In September 2009, Première Vision made public the organisation of two new events in Brazil and Japan. The latter was joined with the Jitac European Textile Fair, a gathering of 70 agents and 500 textile designers led by the Japan Imported Textiles Agency Council. The merging of the two fairs was presented as the result of an exchange of courtesies and publicity for eight years.
