Paris Fashion Week Men to feature five new names in January

The next Paris Fashion Week Men, scheduled from January 14 to 20, will feature no less than five labels that will be taking to the catwalks for the first time in the French capital.


Rhude - Diego Benjamin Andrade


Among them, one of the most unexpected is Casablanca, the brainchild of Charaf Tajer, a French designer of Moroccan origins who was a fixture of Parisian nightlife and is the co-founder of the Pigalle label. Tajer made the headlines last June, staging a catwalk show in the sublime gardens of the Montmartre museum in Paris, transformed for the occasion into a Casablanca café. Undoubtedly, Casablanca will be one of the labels to look out for this season.

There are great expectations for Botter, by designer duo Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh - also the creative directors of Nina Ricci since 2018 - which will debut at the Paris Fashion Week next January. Botter and Herrebrugh were among the finalists at the LVMH Prize 2018, and a few months later they won the emerging designer award at the Hyères Festival, convincing the jury chaired by Haider Ackermann with a style steeped in their Caribbean roots and in sustainable design. 

Another label worth a peek is Rhude. Founded by designer Rhuigi Villasenor, born in the Philippines and based in Los Angeles, since its inception Rhude has featured a mix of street culture and British-style punk, of American motifs like eagles and streetwear staples like bandannas, fashioning a distinctive, highly quirky style. Inspired by his mentor, artist Taz Arnold, Villasenor embodies a new generation of LA designers. His collections include high-end details and are produced in the USA, and he has caught the critics’ eye after collaborations with Puma, Vans and Thierry Lasry. 


Botter


London-based designer Craig Green first came to the fore in 2012, when he founded his own label. A graduate of the Central Saint Martins school, Green creates structured street-style looks with a neo-romantic, warrior-like aesthetic, dipping extensively into military uniforms and functional apparel, and producing clothes in which straps and belts feature regularly, and prints only rarely. He was notably recognised as Emerging Menswear Designer at the British Fashion Awards in 2014.
 
The last label that will debut at the Paris Fashion Week Men in January is Rochas Homme, with its new creative director, Italian designer Federico Curradi, who was appointed in 2018 and will present his vision of men’s fashion. Rochas has been owned by the Interparfums group since 2015. Its menswear line is developed and produced under licence by the Onward Luxury Group and, since the Fall/Winter 2019-20 collection, its style has become more bohemian and romantic. 

Finally, next January’s Parisian show calendar will include two labels making a come-back with their menswear, Givenchy and Jacquemus.
